The “+ More” = A Little About Me

Reading about Elisa’s kitchen renovation has got me reminiscing about all the work we did on our condo a few years ago. Our renovation was a MAJOR one. I’m talking demolish-and-rebuild MAJOR, every square inch. We learned one important thing during it: NEVER undergo a whole-home renovation. It sucks on so many levels.

Anyway, during the work, I was OBSESSIVE about taking before, during, during, during, during, during, during, and after photos of every little space. Here is an example, with most of the “durings” removed:

I chose this sequence because I am in love with that hand-painted panel which I found at an estate sale for super cheap. Another thing about me: I’m an estate sale, flea market, thrift store addict. Retail is for suckers.

Of course you need a nice belt to hold up your jeans at the gym

2014 = the year of “I suck at running.”

Most of you: “I sign up for races to keep me motivated and on track with my training. I need to have a goal.” [creates detailed training schedule and does a fairly good job of sticking to it]

Me (phase 1): “I sign up for races to keep me motivated and on track with my training. I need to have a goal.” [creates detailed training schedule]

Me (phase 2): “Running feels so terrible. I will wait a bit and begin training closer to race day.” [reworks training schedule]

Me (phase 3): “Why should I be miserable during training runs AND during the race? Why not be miserable just once on race day?” [violently rips up training schedule]

Me (race day): “I hate myself so much.”

If you couldn’t tell, 2014 has been the year of running races untrained. The particular races where I sucked at running? Here ya go:

  • 2014 Pittsburgh Half Marathon (May)
  • Great Race 10K (September)
  • Pittsburgh EQT 10 miler (last week)

In Maybe Marathoner fashion, here is the analysis of the last few moments of last week’s race:Mile9.9But, the good news is that the weight lifter in me has been rockin’ in at the gym. Showing up every morning as the doors are unlocked and bouncing  from my pre-workout drink of who-knows-what chemicals to get started. And then very once in awhile, I get a gym bonus – today’s was seeing this lovely lady in her embroidered-pocket jeans on the elliptical.

Nothing screams, “I’m ready for an intense workout” like knee-length jorts at the gym.

The only thing WORSE than flip flops at the gym

WTF

Excuse me, Sir. Is your New Year’s resolution to exercise more in jeans?

The “+ More” = Crowded Gyms in January

Regular and consistent gym-goers complain about the surge of new people in gyms in January.

Not me. I LOVE the January crowd.  New faces, resolution excitement, all the “new beginning” vibes. I am hoping that by showing these newbies an occasional smile and some encouragement, a few will stick around, become more healthy, and begin to love the gym as much as I do.

What is happening at my gym?!

Denim is taking over my gym. I’m not sure exactly when it happened but, in the past two weeks, Sarah (who snapped this AWESOME photo of a guy sleeping) and I have been seeing people working out in them left and right.

Sarah called last Monday “jeans day” and texted me these two pictures:

JeansDay

Earlier in the week, I saw a guy lifting in jeans who clearly was JUST released from prison. Avoid taking pictures of a guys working out in jeans if they have face tattoos and look as if they have spent the last “8-10” doing nothing but lifting weights for hours upon hours a day. #JustSayin

But I did see this girl on an elliptical IN JORTS:

And I have walked past this poster in the stairwell a bazillion times and never noticed that the guy in it is IN JEANS.

PosterIs Golds Gym is sending out subliminal messages and encouraging this atrocious jeans-in-the-gym behavior? What do you think?

0% chance that is comfortable

Fall is approaching! Get out those sweaters and jeans and get to the gym!

SweaterAnd this isn’t a new phenomenon, we’ve seen sweaters in the gym before.

Today’s picture is dedicated to Independence Day

“What to wear to the gym? Hmmm? Oh, I know, I’ll wear my bleached jeans and flag tshirt.”
